The founding father of Greens Feed and seed Mr. Earl Green started out as a dealer for Altmans Feed Company back in 1949. After 14 years Altmans went out of business. In 1963  Earl and his wife Shirley started Greens Feed and Seed on Washington Street where the Greyhound bus terminal sets today.  Green's was at the Washington Street location until 1977.  It was then that urban renewal almost forced Earl to lock his doors. Having no place to go Earl being a Christian man did what all Christians do when faced with a problem, he prayed. The Lord answered his prayer when the B and O railroad called and offered him some land where the store now sets.   In 1992 the store expanded to the 15,000 square foot building we have today.
In 1998 the store was sold to Southern States and was under their corporate banner until 2001 when Earl bought the store back.  Earl, His son Mike and Grandson Mike Jr continued to run the business until October of 2021. It was then that Earl and Mike decided it was time to retire.  They sold the business to a team of highly motivated entrepreneurs who not only wanted to preserve what the Green family had worked so hard to build but to expand on it as well.  Today we have a location in Ripley WV with plans to build a brand new store there, while giving the Charleston store a refreshing makeover. Please stop in and say “HI” to the new owners as well as our friendly and knowledgeable staff.
